Footnote: In Conversation
Musician and Composer, Dr Katrina Burton
by Carolyn Scott

Dr Katrina Burton is an accomplished composer and musician based in Edinburgh. Her music is very much inspired by an interest in the visual arts: painting, sculpture, photography, and architecture. Her work has been performed by the Orchestra of Scottish Opera, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, NYOS: Futures, the Concorde Ensemble, the Research Ensemble and the Edinburgh Quartet.
But Katrina's interest in finding inspiration in the visual arts could be linked to the fact that Katrina lost much of her hearing at an early age. This conversation explores how she uses structures to influence her compositions, not - as many other musicians do - using the acoustics, but using the lines and textures, owing to her hearing problems.
